How do I place a bid?
Do you charge my card or place a hold on it when I bid?
I want to bid on an item and it’s asking me to cover a credit card fee. What is that?
When I place a bid there’s a charge for “Help cover fundraising costs”. What is that?
- Once the auction opens, click on the item you want to bid on.
- Enter your bid amount into the box
- Click “bid”
- Betterworld.org will prompt you to set up an account if you haven’t already done so. Many organizations use Betterworld, so you may have an existing account if you participated in another organization’s (or our) previous fundraiser. If it tells you that you already have an account and you don’t know the password, click “forgot password” to reset it.
Do you charge my card or place a hold on it when I bid?
- No. Cards are not charged until the auction ends. Only the winning bids will be charged.
I want to bid on an item and it’s asking me to cover a credit card fee. What is that?
- The credit card processor charges 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction.
- Betterworld.org gives you the option of covering this cost as a donation, otherwise the cost is deducted from our total fundraiser at the end of the auction.
- On your first bid it asks you if you want to cover this cost. After that, any future bids will have that setting. If you’d like to change it, check your betterworld.org account settings.
- Covering the cost lowers our expenses which means more funds go to migrant families.
When I place a bid there’s a charge for “Help cover fundraising costs”. What is that?
- Betterworld is a nonprofit that offers their fundraising services for free. To offset their costs, they ask bidders to make a donation. They automatically include it in the total cost unless you opt out.
- To opt out of this fee, click the “?” icon next to the charge. This will access a link to change or remove the amount.
- If you’re unsure how to remove this charge from your bid, we created a user guide HERE.
I won an item. Now what?
I placed a bid and was immediately outbid a couple times. What’s going on?
I saw a piece on the auction that I must have. Can I pay the full value before the auction opens?
I placed a bid but I changed my mind. What can I do?
The auction ended and I’m certain I won an item but I was told I didn’t. What’s going on?
- When the auction ends you will recieve an email from betterworld.org confirming your winning bid and telling you how to pay shipping costs.
- Please follow the instructions in that email for each item you won.
- Once you pay shipping costs for the item through the “fulfilment center”, we will tell the artist to ship it directly to you.
- You must pay shipping separately for each item if you won multiple items.
- We can’t ship your item(s) until you follow this process through the “Fulfilment Center” on the Betterworld website.
- If you do not receive your item or hear from the artist within 3 weeks after paying shipping, contact us.
- If you run into any problems, please email us so we can help.
- We will offer a refund if you don’t receive your item, but we do not offer refunds/returns if you are unsatisfied with the item. You may contact the artist directly if you want to discuss an issue with the item you received.
I placed a bid and was immediately outbid a couple times. What’s going on?
- Someone else has set a “maximum bid” amount for that item. The system will automatically outbid any other bids until that maximum is reached.
- You can set a max bid too, you have the option in the screen where you place your bid.
I saw a piece on the auction that I must have. Can I pay the full value before the auction opens?
- No, sorry. But you can bid that amount.
I placed a bid but I changed my mind. What can I do?
- Betterworld’s policy is “all bids are final”. You can contact betterworld.org directly, but we have no way of removing your bid or changing the amount once you place it.
The auction ended and I’m certain I won an item but I was told I didn’t. What’s going on?
- Betterworld.org is an automated auction site. The system is taking bids in real time and sometimes others are bidding faster than you can see. We cannot reverse auction decisions.
